Heart
for Ethiopia was incorporated as a nonprofit agency on July
31, 2006. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit corporation
Although this corporation has only recently been formed, some
individuals involved in the activity have been working in Ethiopia
for many years and have generated considerable charitable assistance
for projects as defined on the Development Projects page. They
have recognized that the needs exceed their current resources
and are now creating this corporation to appeal to a larger
segment of the general public to expand opportunity for more
adequate contributions to meet the needs.
Heart
for Ethiopia was established to identify needs of individuals
and families, primarily in Ethiopia, where some minimum charitable
assistance would be effective in sustaining life and increasing
opportunity for improvements in the standard of living and a
sustainable environment.
The
programs are designed to encourage indigenous people to do needs
assessments and recommend solutions that would best address
their local needs and to mobilize the indigenous peoples groups
to participate in self-help efforts. Heart for Ethiopia will
supply minimum seed money and technical assistance where needed.
The
corporation will contract with a faith-based organization in
Ethiopia to identify and implement projects. The initial contract
is with the Addis Kidan Baptist Church which is actually an
association of many churches, a preponderance of which are located
in rural areas where most families are living on a bare subsistence
level.
The
Addis Kidan organization is already doing much development work
throughout the country and is instrumental in implementing the
sponsorship of nearly 2000 needy children and orphans. They
are a recognized development agency by the Ethiopian government.
Heart
for Ethiopia is an organization of committed volunteers who
are freely giving of their time and office space is donated
as well. Therefore overhead expenses are minimal and over 95%
of contributions reach the program selected.
